Reno

So as some of you may know the Jazz band went to Reno this past weekend.
The trip started off with one of the best bus rides ever. The whole 19 of us band kids rode down to the seatac airport in a regular sized school bus = everyone had their own seat. Once we got to the airport though we had like 2 1/2 hours to kill. Which was lucky for josh who forgot to bring his Trombone... *smacks forehead* At anyrate we all made it through security... though I had forgotten to take off my studded belt...heh... had some lunch and boarded the plane. I sat with Andrew and Benji behind the wing on a 737-700, southwest plane. I thought I would sleep but instead I ended up playing cards with the guys.

Landing in Reno was smooth and relaxed....However they did give us the Mini-bus, which we ended up using the rest of the trip, basically smaller than the short bus. *le sigh* That night we watched Maria Schneider's Big band, as well as the University of Nevada Reno's big band.Which though interesting had Benji and I falling asleep. I even saw Simpson nodding off a few times. The concert was 3 hours long so by the time we got back to the hotel it was 10:20 or so and bed checks were in 40 mins, so we basically just all went to bed. After I returned Benji's jacket that I had accidentally taken.

Next day started a little too late. We had intended to wake up at 5 am.... Simpson called at 6:15, which ended up being our wake up call. So we rushed around for about 15mins and got dressed and downstairs. No time for breakfast of course. Luckily though we grabbed some grub at the collage when their cafeteria opened up. Sadly for Kara she was in the Combo so she didn't eat until lunch. After it was off to our performance and I think we did all right, we'll know for sure on Tuesday when we have Jazz band again. Then it was off to pictures, which were outside and tuxes in desert heat is not fun at all~! At anyrate we then went back and changed.
The rest of the day was spent at the collage listening to jazz groups. Josh, Kara, Andrew, Benji, Colin and I all headed and listened to a Collage group. Afterwhich we headed to the improv clinic which was crowded. we managed to grab some seats in the back, thank god for couches. At any rate it was reaaaaalllly boring. I think most of us ended up falling asleep. I myself fell asleep on Benji's shoulder. Finally what I had been looking forward to the whole time. Brian Hamada's Drum clinic. However Benji has stolen the Pinkney Maternal Luck.... Therefor the power went out about 15 mins through the guy's lecture. *sighs* But! he did keep going. Honestly though I wish he had shut up more and just played. For he was a phenomenal drummer. I would have enjoyed just hearing some good drumming. But he did have some good tips that I may implement on my own set.

After that we went back to the convention center, but due to the power outage we never made it to the awards ceremony, after waiting around for an hour and a half of flyer's up and wrastling with Benji we just walked back the hotel. Though I walked less then other's as Benji gave me a piggyback ride for about a block or so. Back at the hotel we ate dinner and played the ticket games at Circus Circus. With the four of us playing (Andrew, Benji, Kara and I) We got aboot 1200 tickets which we split up. After which we all went back to mine and the girls room where half of the band ended up and played Spaz and other various card games.

Sunday was relaxed and slow. We got up late, ate at the buffet and watched little ones play carny games. The plane ride was long and tiring with a layover in Oakland where we had lunch. I mostly slept on the plane back as did Benji who I sat next to again. Though Andrew wouldn't give up the Window seat even though it had already been agreed upon. In any case Andrew never slept as hes horrified of flying, he just watched outside the window. Finally we were back home at Seatac. Me papa came and picked me ups and I went home.

Overall
*Reno weather was great
*I am a lil' sleep deprived
*the food was way over priced
*the jazz was pretty cool
*I had an Awesome time with a capital A
*Gas costs an arm and a leg
