I agree with alot that you are saying, and I questioned it all myself at one point, as I have alot of gay friends that are affected by such a ruling. After talking with those friends, and asking around to develop my own opinion, I decided I actually think it's not right to ban gay marraige, but I also encountered alot of suprising points

when marriage started, it was about religion. however, now, it is not. you can get married almost anywhere and by a justice of the peace. marriage is about civil liberties now. in fact, you can be an athiest and get married.
so are you saying athiests should be forced to call their marriages civil unions as well?
because that seems like that's what your agrument would assert.
