Rude? Awakenings

Jul 28, 2005 11:35

My eyes didn't want to open. They felt as though they had been sanded shut. My mouth tasted of ashes, and dirt. Upon taking a deep breath, I realized the rest of me probably wasn't on the high list for anyone ( Read more... )

"You rang?"

Of course he rang. And like the foolish idiot I am I came. Could've stayed perfectly comfortable on the sofa. Well, not exactly. There was kind of the whole hole in the stomach thing that was bothering me. But still, absolutely no reason for me to have made my way to the bedroom. Pathetic, that's what it was.

I let out a sigh and leaned my head back trying not to look too pained, too bored, or for that matter too interested in the what he had to say. Can anyone say needed a secure place to stay, you stuck up... Okay, maybe I should at least wait to hear what he has to say. After all it might be interesting.

Palms firmly planted on the bed behind me I looked him in the face.

"You wanted to talk?"

Then for sanity's sake I forced a small laugh.

"C'mon. I'm here talk. Let me guess."

I put on the best little faux british accent I could muster.

"Lilah now that the impending doom is over I'd like you to get out, also you should check that wound...not that I care, because you're evil. Also I despise you. You see, I work for the side of good and am in love with a twig, who like me has a very annoying accent. However, I digress..."

I had to stop as a felt a grin spreading across my face. After taking a moment to catch my breath, I continued in my own voice, thank god.

"Did I about cover it? Or did I miss some part of your sermon. Save it Wes. Like I tried to tell you before, I didn't come for your lectures, or for you. I came because of all the places to stay this provided the most protection from the people, and in this case, big rock guy who wanted me dead. Also not a bad place when you're trying to get some work done."

Closing my eyes I let out another sigh, trying not to let him see how exhausted I really was.

"I'll get out of your hair now, as long as you're okay. After all, I'm a big girl."

"Oh knock it off" I said, searching for clothes, "the martyr act is getting a little old." I sighed, even with the wound, she really was very beautiful. I know I loved her. Maybe I still do.

"Lilah, here's the deal, you can stay here as long as you need. Rest, recouperate, all of it. As long as you do not try to mettle in A.I.'s affairs. One wiff that you've done anything invovling them, and you're out on your pretty little ass."

I pulled on my trousers.

"Does that about cover it?"

"I'm not doing a martyr act Wes. Let's face it, kinda cornered the market on that one. And also you do realize the world doesn't revolve around Angel Investigations, right? I mean you guys are involved in world altering events, but who isn't nowadays? If anything I'd say you guys tend to meddle in Wolfram and Hart's business. And as for me, I'll do business as I please. Cause newsflash Wes, got bigger priorities than a vampire with a soul."

I sighed and sat up a bit more.

"You did once too. Whatever happened to your little team anyway? You know the one you started and ran? The one that located Angel, found Cordelia. I mean sure, we can't give you all the credit for world saving this year. I did help. You know, sharing documents, etc. But still, you just gave it all up at a chance to get back in with a bunch of people who could care less about you, didn't you? You sacrificed the world, or the position in which you could best serve it, all for your foolish pride."

I grimaced as I brushed the hair away from my face, pausing mostly for breath, but also for the silence; the peace of it all. Then reality, the chilling reality of who I was, where I was, who we were and everything around me came crashing in.

I gave a half smile.

"There probably was a time when I would have told you how proud I was of you. Putting yourself above everybody else. Telling the rest of the world to go shove off. But now,"

I could feel the sigh come from my throat. So tired of it all. Maybe I was just tired of being me.

"Now, It just kind of seems pathetic..."

Realizing the tone of conversation was starting to damper, I plastered on a grin and continued despite my better judgment.

"And not all together in line with the whole good and pure self sacrifice line you've been trying to push as of late. I mean, from a purely objective viewpoint."
