Native actors for the Water Tribe... anonymous August 5 2010, 08:40:03 UTC
Very cool list. Some are great, esp Azula! I like the suggestion of Nathanael Arcand, who is a great actor. While Michael Spears might be a little too young, he could pull it off with some facial hair, too!

Nakotah LaRance would have been a perfect Sokka. He could have TOTALLY pulled off the humor and attitude! Great actor, too, who doesn't get a lot of work. He's around 19 now, but he looks younger, so he could have easily played a 15-16 yr old.

As for Katara, Annabella Piugattuk would have been awesome if she was still a teenager (she was in The Snow Walker), as she is mixed-Inuit and looked a *lot* like Katara back in the day! She was also a wonderful actress and it's unfortunate she didn't get a lot of work after her debut and follow-up in the Into the West series.

Actually, speaking of full-Inuit actors (who look a lot more Asian than other Native North Americans, Robert Joamie, who played the kid on Map of the Human Heart (Jason Scott Lee plays the adult version of the character), would have been a perfect Aang back in the day! (you'd have to do an image search to see either since they are sort of obscure actors...I'm just a nerd when it comes to Native films). Again, harder to cast known kid actors...but sheesh, they could have easily found new talent. That's what they went for anyway, and it's not like just young white actors are undiscovered talent!!

Oh yeah, and Nathaniel Arcand is also very skilled in Martial Arts, so he could have been a great Hakoda...even though he isn't a Waterbender he's a great 'action' character as a warrior. Ah well, so much could have been done so much more awesomely....
