re:6 I think Reed offers a self defense course for women--might be something to look into.

I have a car and like going to a good coffee shop I found. We should go sometime.

reed does have a women's self-defense course. i'll likely take it at some point.
additionally, coffee shop+car+talking with you = super.

i am wicked, wicked good at math
i don't drink a lot of coffee though (read: none) but i would if it's the only way
or we could get dinner sometime

Hello Laura! I know you too! I also wish to dance with you, sometime soon. Come to Lindy Hop next semester, and the you and I will go out and dance with real Portlanders. We'll paint the town red! (Or some equally exciting color).

but, but...i'm afraid. i have not, as of yet, proved to be a particularly co-ordinated/good at fast things person. would i still survive, do you think? how long have you been dancing for? and i love your icon.

Don't be scared! I am one of the least coordinated people I know (exhibit A: last night I banged up my ankle dancing with a friend at the alumni swing thing). HOWEVER, I still have tons of fun. That's the cool thing about swing, that it can be sexy if you want it to be, but also goofy whenever you feel like it.

In other words, you will definitely survive. I've been dancing for 1 and 1/2 years (ever since I came to Reed and my HA taught me how and dragged me kicking and screaming out of the bubble). I love it. It is literally my favorite thing on Earth. The class on Mondays is for beginners, so there's really nothing to worry about. I would love it if you came, and I actually got to interact with you outside of class! I hope you do.

(Also, thanks about the icon. I love all of yours, the elephants is my favorite.)

ok. you have won me over 1/2 way. however, i changed my schedule around so i could take tango, so i'm doing that first quarter, at least. second quarter, i may very well be in lindy hop. and thanks for the recommendations. and good luck on things.

I've been planning to learn about foraging for edible plants. I'd love to go eat poisonous stuff in the Canyon with ya.

let's totally do it.

i know dandelions are edible and high in vitamin c. as are clovers. clovers have a lot of protein. grasshoppers, by weight, have more protein than steak.

that is all i know so far.

mmm. I like clovers. And sweetgrass, although I aways forget what it's officially called. I can recognize morell mushrooms without fail and eat them, but I dont think they grow around here.

yeah that's pretty much it for me so far.

Psst... Laura? It's Emma, from your anthropology class back in the day... we talked about the Teenage Liberation Handbook, remember? I have a copy of Stolen Sharpie Revolution which I can mail to you.

Also, I am hella into anyone who lives in the dorms leaving campus all the time and exploring PDX and taking walks and cooking a lot. I thought about how to make this actually happen all the time when I lived in Bragdon, because dorms make me crazy and doing those things kept me (relatively) sane. For PDX adventuring, I recommend 3 Friends Coffeehouse on 12th and Ash (complete with radical faeries on Saturday mornings), karaoke at the E-Room, SCRAP (of re-used art supplies) up in NE, In Other Words & the Black Rose & Laughing Horse for books... when I am back in PDX, we should hang out and visit some of those places.

In conclusion, bicycling is love.

whoooooooa hello there! i live in bragdon. dorms make me crazy. i think i need to get a bike so i can get out of here faster. i feel trapped.

thank you for the resource list. when do you return? how are you doing?
i'm so glad you got in touch with me!

oh and also. mail. i won't be back in pdx til 1/25, so...are you coming out this spring? if not, i can give you my address then, so you don't have to keep track of it til i'm back.

hehe... believe me, i empathize so hard with bragdon-living bicycle-less trapped feeling. bicycles and living off-campus made my life feel 1000% more human. (i lived on the third floor right next to the balcony where everyone was always smoking and acting like fools, which doubled my rage.)

i'm doing pretty well... i'm living with my parents and selling electronics in the mall of america, it's ridiculous. i'm glad to not be in portland for a little while, because i tend to get overwhelmed by other people's stress, but at the same time i miss it & my folks there like crazy. mixed blessings, whatcha gonna do? i am going back to portland in the fall

re: mail. will it get to you if i send it to your reed mailstop? 'cause i know your name and the address at reed, and i'll probably forget if i leave it 'til after winter holidays.

and by "fall," i totally meant "spring." i am coming back to reed in january. i think.
