So here are a few icons from the fabulous new aussie crime show City Homicide (yes the name is rather mundane). But for an aussie show, i'm really impressed.
Haha good taste in television! You too ;) (Though Doctor Who seems a surprising addition hehe). Ahh yes, Doctor Who :P I've found that I've been needing to justify my new-found Doctor Who love to people as much as my Buffy obsession! Both shows suffer from a massive misconception among many many people, but both are really truly very good! (If not everyone's cup of tea) :P
Shane Bourne is definitely a fantastic dramatic actor ♥ He was AFI nominated for the all three seasons of MDA, and won twice. He played the head of the MDA legal association... a grumpy but lovable and brilliant lawyer who stole every scene he was in. He was so good that i'll always see him as Bill 'Happy' Henderson, no matter what other roles he does in the future. (Whatever you do though, don't buy the 'MDA DVD' that the ABC released. They only released it because it was a four episode special starring Sigrid Thornton, and it was the only episode of MDA that was actually BAD. And I mean truly, shockingly bad) :(
Sea Heelers! LOL I gave Sea Heelers a try, but didn't watch more than one episode. I'm not a Lisa McCune fan, so that didn't help. You're right though, there's been next to no mainstream Aussie drama lately. I still maintain i've only ever seen two great Aussie shows - MDA and Wildside (another old ABC show). Everything else is just borderline embarrassing. (This coming from someone who spend her childhood acting in said shows :P Although in my defence, back then, there was good stuff being made!)
Thanks for the link to cityhomicide.net, I cant believe there's a fansite for an aussie show. They must be doing something right if a real live fandom has sprung up already!
I cant WAIT for PB ♥ I just cant get over the fact that they've taken my four favorite actors/characters and stuck them in Sona together :D Its gonna be SO good! Although have you heard all the rumors about Sarah Wayne Callis?
I'm looking forward to Heroes and Bionic Woman too. So many shows are starting now its just ridiculous. I do wonder whether the networks are going to stick to their 'fast track' thing once ratings have finished for the year though. Can you imagine the backlash if they suddenly say - "well, that's it for the fast tracking. See you all in March!" I won't be downloading PB, just watching it on 7. (Although that has nothing to do with wanting to conserve MBs for more Doctor Who downloads...) ;)
hehe Sea Heelers. I gave it a go and promised myself i'd stick it out for the whole season, but I ended up giving up! (Mainly because City Homicide and Shark were on during the same timeslot(s) (we get all the inland hybrid channels lol)). It picked up after the first episode, which was utter rubbish, but it quickly settled down to soapy, McLeod's Daughters-inspired writing. And the performances were atrocious from all but a few (I really liked Josh Lawson hehe)
I'm really looking forward to PB, as you say, the setup with all four of them being in Sona is awesome. I haven't heard and SWC rumours, no. I'd prefer if it stayed that way xD
As for Fastrack - what I've heard is that they will not keep up with them over the summer non-ratings period. UNLESS they're rating poorly then they might do it. But it doesn't surprise me, 7 have become really, really arrogant with their decision making lately. IF the three shows were a ratings success, then I could understand them pulling the shows off air for a few months, but PB has been doomed to poor ratings because it's on at 9.30 after Las Vegas, which rates poorly - and will probably get worse when Ten whack House back on on Oct 3.
cityhomicide.net - haha yeah that fandom surprised me, half the members there are squeeing over Matt/Jen already!
"As for Fastrack - what I've heard is that they will not keep up with them over the summer non-ratings period." See, that's gonna drive me nuts :( I'll definitely start downloading if they pull them off the air. But with my even-more-limited-than-normal internet, I might be a bit screwed :( I hope PB survives, but I probably wont mind that much about Heroes, which I thought went a little off the rails towards the end of s1. Where did you hear that they'll probably be pulling stuff off the air for non-ratings?
That's interesting to hear about Sea Heelers :P One of the reasons I couldn't stomach it was because the acting was appalling, but I might have kept watching if it picked up generally after the first ep. Although soapy writing bugs me so I wouldn't have lasted with it anyway :P
Don't worry, I wont say anything about Sara/SWC :) (Although technically its not a plot spoiler as such). Stay away from most major PB lj comms at the moment because its being talked about a LOT.
Matt and Jen? lol I've been too busy devoting all my to attention to Stanley to have jumped on the Matt/Jen bandwagon! But i'm a little weird that way :P
Where did you hear that they'll probably be pulling stuff off the air for non-ratings? I post at/read two forums, tvaus.com.au and mediaspy.org/forum; there are several network 'insiders', along with the general consensus, that say that they are more than likely not to play over summer. It's dissapointing, but understandable (from me who is absolutely obsessed with TV ratings :D). There has been talk of changing the non-ratings period around, doing like 'sweeps' in America, only aligning it with the US season. But I don't think that'll happen.
They'd be better off doing concurrent airings of 24 and Lost, cause they don't start until late Jan next year anyway, only just outside our ratings period.
I take it SWC gets the chop because of her baby? (please don't tell me, i'm just being cynical :P)
I take it SWC gets the chop because of her baby? No, I seriously doubt the network would be that stupid, can you imagine the lawsuit! The 'thing' i'm talking about is still in rumor/speculation mode anyway, so nothing has actually been confirmed yet. I wont say any more, but i'm sure one of the TV Guides will mention it pretty soon :(
I agree about 24 and Lost. Although, last year, Prison Break actually went on a 2 month-ish hiatus in the US for some reason. I'm not sure if that's the norm for them though. If so, at least we wouldn't be missing much! Plus, the US tends to have really disrupted viewing schedules - a few weeks of new eps, and then random repeats for a week or two. So we'll probably get that too, which is going to annoy some people.
I'll have to check out those forums, they sound really useful :D
