Before I go to the "woe is me... blah... blue... *angst*" self-suckage. Funny story first.
Time: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday 14 September 2005
Location: A classroom in the College of Arts and Sciences, UP Manila
So, there we were... leisurely taking our Physics Exam when we heard a couple of students running, a guard shouting and a single whistle.
We didn't really give it a second look... momentum was taking over our minds.
A few moments later we heard a knock and a guard popped in and talked to our teacher. Some hushed whispers and then our whole classroom started to talk and even laugh.
I asked my seatmate what's up. Apparently there was a bomb threat.
Yes, a real bomb threat.
Now, a reasonable school/teacher would immediately usher us out of the room and not mind the fact that we were taking a test.
Guess what our teacher did?
He looked at the guard and said, "30 minutes nalang" (Only 30 more minutes)
Some more hushed whispers and the guard left. The whole class was now laughing at sheer disbelief. The guard came back and told him that someone insisted that everyone leave the building now.
Sir - "20 minutes".
More laughter... although everyone was getting testy. A lot of students passed their papers already (there was more than enough time for the usual student anyway) and left, with our teacher saying "To those who are finished, pass your papers and go home ok. Go straight out."
With my "don't pass until the teacher snatches my paper out of my hand" idea, I stayed. Uhuh, the things I do to actually try to get a high grade.
So there we were, roughly about 15 students stayed inside. After a few more moments, our teacher led us outside to the canteen which was more or less empty.
If that bomb threat was real. *shakes head*
I met my maid outside and she said that the police were there checking the bathrooms (I have no idea why the bathrooms only) and that the news vans even came by to interview some students.
They then let the students come back after checking the premises for an hour.
I love my quirky school.
A nice quote from a classmate from Zamboanga (where bomb threats aren't that rare): “Bomb threat lang yan, hindi pa kayo sanay diyan?” (It’s only a bomb threat, you guys aren’t used to that yet?)
