I think a lot, if not most, of amateur musicians have the wrong ideas and motivation for writing music. They believe that they write it solely for their fans, if that even; it could be just for popularity or just to be in a band and be on stage. Really, musicians should be writing songs for themselves to then express to their fans. I think a lot of musicians locally are beginning to lose that mindset.
