markers

In keeping with the promise that I wouldn't just stop using this journal altogether after moving to my new one and would instead use this one for art, I come with the first official post as such.

I've always thought I was more or less content with my abilities in the different media I normally work with. I can rock the hell out of pencil, rock a similar amount out of charcoal, own the ass of acrylic, watercolor, and ink. The one medium I've never been trained in and never really focused on working with before was markers. I had one peice of marker art in my ap portfolio, and I basically used them the same as inks, no shading or anything, just lines and white.

Anyway, recently Andrew found a pack of Roseart's from Walmart that I bought forever ago just to write in and whatnot, and decided while watching My Fair Lady to experiment using them the way several artists use Prismacolors or Copics.

The results aren't as bad as I anticipated, but I still need to do a lot more practice with them before I feel I'm even close to as good with them as I am with the other media. (I'm confident that it can be done, at least, because I used to suck some serious balls with acrylics and now they're what I work best in.) I really wish Mr. Dennis had covered markers before he retired. I'd have sooner chocked on them before I'd have asked that twinkie-scarfing bitch of a temp for any lessons with them. :x

Attempt one:

I think this is Niya, anyway. I was just flipping through Shoxx looking for somebody with colors I liked. It's unfortunate his pose was so dumbly angled and highly contrasted, because I couldn't actually -see- what he was doing with his body. :/

Attempt two:

I did a portrait of him for my first acrylic peice a few years back which turned out pretty good, so I was hoping for the same luck. The sunglasses and hair turned out ok, I think, but I wish I knew a way to blend the skin better.

Attempt three:

Drew this for Andrew. xD I have a tendency of drawing men looking a bit femme because I don't like wide angles (women have smaller features), but the fact that I only had a lavender marker to use for a base on the lips really didn't help. Glamour Anakin!

So anyway...if you any of you guys have tips/experiences to share with me about markers, feel free to share.
