Comics! (What works and What doesn't Edition)

Incorruptible #11: What works: The way Max is lost in this world, and more importantly, in the role he has chosen for himself in it. What doesn't: The forced parallels with the Superman mythos. It stopped being edgy a long time ago.

Batman The Return Of Bruce Wayne #6: What works: Bruce playing 4-d chess on the fly. What doesn't: We're supposed to believe that the Bat was all the time Darkseid's conceptual seeker/killer. No, thanks.

Doc Savage #8: What works: The setting and atmosphere is both nightmarish and larger than life in a way that fits how this Doc is being written. What doesn't: The plot (although, admittedly, plot was never the strong point of pulp).

R.E.B.E.L.S. #22: This galaxy doesn't work. If this is canon, basically there is no possibility of respect for the Guardians, Vril Dox, or pretty much anyone else who might have known about this and didn't do anything. Apokolips is one thing, this is another. Bottom line: reading it will make you sick, and it doesn't give you anything for it.

Red Robin #17: What works: Tim works. He's proactive, sneaky, social, and human. In a word, he's awesome. What doesn't: Lynx's sexification, and Tim's befuddlement. She's more professional than that, and, while no Lothario, Tim's more experienced than that. There is no possible parallel with Selina and Bruce's situation.

Iron Man The Rapture #1: What works: The premise: Tony has a heart attack, so of course he builds himself a new heart. He finds a brain tumor (one I have doubts about), so of course he operates on his own brain. It's only logical. What doesn't: Turning this into yet another "evil AI" story. Why?

Thanos Imperative #6: What works: Thanos and Star-Lord's snearky. The Guardian's dialog (e.g., Cosmo's comments). What doesn't: In the end, the Cancerverse was a ripoff, having diverged from our universe at a very late point. Boring.

Warriors Three #1: What works: Both the Warriors Three and the AIM scientists, each on their own way, are made of believable awesome. I'd love to intern at AIM, although that'd likely get me killed. What doesn't: The way this story seems to want to go.

Halcyon #1: What works: The multiple realities, the super-villain(s), the plot so far. I want to know more, specially about the bad guy. What doesn't: Some bits feel forced, in particular the heroes.

Dead Future Vol. #1: What works: The first story is a zombie story with an interesting angle. What doesn't work: The rest of the stories are zombie stories without interesting angles (in particular, I thought the one in space had a lot of squandered potential)
