im sitting right next to you...hahaha. heres the work.

Definitions:

Computer- an electronic device that accepts date, performs computations, and makes logical decisions according to instructions and data that have been given to it and that produces meaningful information in a form useful to humans.

General Purpose computers - term(s) used to identify computers in which their computation and input /output processing capabilities are such that they can be used for almost any type of application.

Information - knowledge of some fact or circumstance that is given or received

Information/data processing - the process of sharing information between humans and computers

Information utilities - businesses that use computers to store huge amounts of information, then make access to these computers and the stored information available for personal use.

Application program - a program that instructs the computer to perform a specific, user-defined task.

Computer system - a combination of related elements (hardware and software) working together to achieve a common goal

Hardware - tangible, physical equipment that can be seen and touched

Input - data that enters the computer

Input device - a hardware device which enables the computer to accept data

Microminiaturization - the technologic process that enables an entire microprocessor to occupy the space of a tiny chip no larger than the size of your fingertip

Output - useful information that leaves the computer

Output device - a hardware device that permits the storage of data

Processing - activity that takes place in the computer’s processor, where detailed instructions tell the computer what should be done to the data to produce the desired information

Processor - a hardware device that processes data into meaningful information

Program - a series of detailed, step by step instructions that tell the computer precisely what actions to perform

Raw data/original data - data from a source document that is fed into the computer for processing

Software - the intangible instructions that tell the computer what to do

Source documents - forms that become the source of the data entered into the computer’s input device

Storage device - a hardware device that permits the storage of data

System program - a program that controls the computer’s circuitry and hardware devices

Information Superhighway - digital, voice, and video communication access through coputer-controlled telephones and televisions to any information resource anywhere in the world

Megahertz - the internal clock speed of a computer in millionths of a second

Local area network (LAN) - a communications network that covers a limited geographic area

Internet - a physically structured network of computers around the world

Questions:

1.Microsecond: 1 millionth of a second, Nanosecond: 1 billionth of a second

2. Computers are considered accurate due to their ability to perform and work at top levels and when a failure occurs its usually due to a bug in a program. (computers can work with large amounts of numbers in a short amount of time.

3.The production of stronger and yet more cost effective parts have helped increase a computers reliability as well as technology advancements in processing power.

4. A general-purpose computer is a computer capable of operating a little of all types of required processes.

5. Cost effective in the sense they save time and man power as a computer is able to handle vast amounts of information in a short amount of time.

6. As computers advance technology advances as well. With more powerful processors and programs running on computers they show a stronger output often resulting in new programs/devices.

7. To make sure there are no errors

8. input, processing, output

9. It helps you take see what the computer has produced/done for you

10. Hardware is built in physical devices working with your computer, software if codes of information which respond to information being inputted to output the desired materials.

11. A input device is what you use to input the information (Keyboard, mouse, etc) a processor moves and works with the information, storage devices store it on the computer and a output device brings it out so you can see th4e information (printer etc)

12. a system program works with the hardware to allow proper function while a application program works with software to properly function with that.

13. Power runs to the main processor which sends its signals and receives signals from input devices while producing a display on the monitor so you can see what your doing.

14. A micro computer is a smaller less powerful version of a computer used at home or with business, a minicomputer is a portable computer(laptop) a mainframe computer runs as a house for other computers while specific computers are only set to work or function for specific needs.
15. A personal computer is a computer used for once self while a portable computer can be taken with one to a desired place.

16. cell phones, cd players, mp3 players

17. A service were you can get information from large amounts of data stored in giant banks/computers.

18. Computers provide better service than people due to the speed in which they work.
Plus their open 24 hours

19. personal computers = 2 but many appliances

20. They control our air conditioning as well as update or knowledge to how’s the weather outside.

21. they help speed it up as they can process transactions faster and even across the world in just seconds.

22. They can send signals across the world in minutes literally spreading news in the blink of an eye/

23. They can monitor a patient 24 hours a day and notify a doctor if needed immediatlly.

24. Less risk to humans in dangerous situations

25. Word processing, research, communication, security, health, production.
