A/N: Honestly, I was working on the next chapter, when I realized that I didn't make a scene where Charlie and Lily talk about Charlie's conversation with Carol. So this is it. And that's why it's short.
Charlie and Carol had come back from the bathroom together, which wasn't very smart of Charlie to do, considering Lily was watching him.
Later, the two duos parted; Carol and Leo walked off hand-in-hand to Carol's car, while Lily glared at Charlie until they were both in his.
"You and Carol have a good chat in the bathroom?" she sniped. "Don't deny it, I saw you two come out at the same time. It wasn't very secretive of you."
"I was right, you were wrong, Carol's a Nighttor," Charlie said at the same time. "She was trying to kill you, but she's fallen in love with Leo, and now she just wants to pretend to be human."
"Wait," Lily said, pausing. "What?" Charlie explained it again, in greater detail, and all Lily could say was, "Oh my God, you did talk to Carol!"
"That's it? No 'You were right, Charlie, I'm going to listen to you next time'?"
"Hey," Lily said, pointing at him. "She's harmless, isn't she?"
"Yeah, but next time-!"
"Okay, next time I'll think about listening to you, but this time, I was right. She isn't dangerous."
Charlie rolled his eyes. "Lily, it's my job to protect you. Not because I have to, not because I need to, but because I want to!" He stopped, because it was a red light, and turned to glare at her. "And I want to, because I love you!"
Lily looked at him, unsure of what was going on.
He looked angry, but he said, softly, "For some stupid reason, I care about you, and I love you, and I don't want you to get hurt."
Lily saw this as her chance. "Charlie, I-"
BEEP! The car behind them honked.
Love you, too. Lily thought sadly, as Charlie waved sorry to the car behind them, and turned his eyes back on the road.
"Sorry about that," Charlie said, pulling into their parking space. "You were saying?"
Hope sparked in Lily's chest. "I love you, too," she said.
But the moment was gone, and Charlie grinned at her. "I'll take that as an apology." Lily stared, dumbfounded, as Charlie got out of the car. "You coming?" he yelled back at her, already climbing the stairs to their apartment. "Don't forget to lock up when you get out!"
