Eames, on the stand, was close to crying. He saw that and knew that with all his heart, the next thing she was going to say was going to break his heart. He saw it in her eyes. "It's a letter requesting a new partner, but I want to expl-"

"Detective Eames, could you please read the highlighted passage, explaining why?"

Eames looked down at the paper again, reading "Detective Goren's erratic interrogation techniques lead me to doubt some of his judgements."

"That's enough, thank you."

Eames' eyes went straight to his, pleading for patience and forgiveness. Carver stood up for a rebuttal; "Detective, could you explain why you withdrew your request?"

Eames seemed almost too eager to reply, "Detective Goren's interrogating techniques is is an acquired taste. While erratic, they lead me to believe that he truly understands the human condition."

She was only too happy to leave the courtroom. She could feel him following her out, and she turned to apologize as soon as they were both out the doors. She doesn't remember much of what she said, but he just smiled down at her, and said, "I am an aquired taste."

She wanted to laugh with the wave of relief that washed over her, until he continued, "and I'm lucky you rescinded your letter."

It wasn't until after they got the mother that she had the guts to tell him.
__________

"Bobby?"

He was hunched over their new case, reading and highlighting. A small, distracted "hm?" could be coming from his general direction.

This is awkward, Eames thought, but she needed to do this. "I'm the lucky one."

He looked up, understanding what she meant right away, smiling at her goofily. "We're lucky to have each other."

That night, she asked him out drink, and instead of hanging around the bar, she asked for a booth. Goren raised an eyebrow at her. But she didn't go through with her plan of spilling her guts to him. She figured, It's okay. We'll see each other tomorrow anyways.

When they parted, she gave him a small kiss on his stubbled cheek. Later, when he was at home, he slipped his hand out of his pocket and put it to his cheek. He understood what it meant: "Thank you for everything" and "I'm so sorry."
