Had an interesting night tonight. I was reading outside of a small Starbucks about ten minutes from home when Anna Paquin strolled. For some reason, she felt compelled to talk to me, so she sat down at my table and said hi. At first I thought this was a little strange since we don't really talk. I mean, we've met occasionally through the years but never have really said anything past "Congrats" or "Too bad. . ." or whatever. I dunno. Maybe we never met in a good setting. But tonight seemed different. She asked me what I was doing, and I said that I was doing some college stuff, and then we got on the subject of things we've done filmwise and things we'd like to do someday. Strangely enough, she brought up that she was thinking about seeing Donnie Darko this Saturday with either her brother or her sister, or maybe both. (The director's cut is coming out.) She asked me if I wanted to come with them, but added that that was a stupid question because she didn't know if I was really comfortable seeing myself on screen. I told her I didn't mind at all and that I'd think about joining them.
The thing about actually seeing the movies I make is that I don't have a problem, but I tend to be pretty critical of myself. I don't know what it is, but I seem to have a complaint of pretty much anything that I do. I just can't really satisfy any standards that I've set for myself. But, it's been awhile since I've even really heard much publicity about this movie, so I think it won't be too bad. Although I haven't seen this version yet (I've seen the first one a few times) I think it won't be too be. I'll just try to remember to have fun.
So, since Anna said that she'd be in LA for about a week, I thought I'd take this chance to hang out with her and really get to know her. She's only a couple of years older than me, but I think she's a pretty cool person and a wonderful actress. I could learn a thing or two from her.
