Anti-depressants, particularly SSRIs, are used to treat other conditions in addition to depression, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, tic disorders, and anxiety disorders.
^ Scroll down and that has some info on different medications. Anti-depressants aren't as overperscribed as people think they are, and chances are that if the doctor thought it was necessary to put you on Prozac, you do need to be on some sort of medication and/or go to counselling, whatever. I know I must sound really stupid and robotic telling you this, but trust me. This stuff can work.
If you're on a medication that doesn't work for you, try another one. Different medications work different ways for different people; one might make you still feel like shit, but another could make a difference.
I like Zoloft because it's generally considered safer (? though I don't know exactly why), and my doctor had been wanting me to take it for my tic disorder and anxiety even before I was diagnosed with depression.
Also, and this is IMPORTANT, DON'T go off medications suddenly (unless you're starting a different one, and even then make sure someone is monitoring your progress), and you should continue taking medication for at least three months after reaching a stabilized condition.
well i had wanted to TALK about going off of it on thursday. but i havent been on medication since last thursday...i have no way to go and pick up my prescription. and i was only on 10mg of it for one month. but plain and simple...i couldnt tell any sort of difference. they said i'd notice. and i did not. and i just don't like the fact that i'm on it making me sad. i dont know what's wrong with me, if i have mood disorder, or if i am bipolar, or depressed. but yeah.
