Writer's Block: Forbidden Reading

Oct 19, 2008 12:15

(I actually have an icon for this!)

I never had to hide anything I read because frankly no one cared. Nothing was too taboo to read. Of course there were books that people told me not to read. My 3rd grade teacher told my mom not to let me read Harry Potter, but she let her own son read it (who was younger than me). Needless to say, I started Harry Potter a few months after Goblet of Fire came out when I was in 4th grade. It took me like a month to read Sorcerer's Stone, a week for Chamber of Secrets, three days for Prisoner of Azkaban (my favorite), about 2 months for Goblet of Fire (I was only in 4th grade!), a week or two for Order of the Pheonix (it came out while I was still in school), two days for Half-Blood Prince (my 2nd favorite book), and twoish days for Deathly Hallows. I ended up loving Harry Potter.

My 10th grade English teacher didn't like me reading vampire novels. So I think that's all I read that year. That was when I started Twilight. I lucked out and started Twilight right before Winter break, so I could finish up that and New Moon in that week we had off. That meant I hade to wait like 6 months for Eclipse, but at least it wasn't the 2 years between GOF and OotP.

So back to my English teacher, she didn't want me to read vampire novels. SO I went to B&N and picked up Interview With the Vampire by Anne Rice. I never finished it.

Okay, so in 9th grade practically all I read was GLBT fiction. And sci-fi. And fantasy. I think Mr. Newby thought I was gay to be quite honest. I actually still read those genres. I love them. No really good GLBT books have come out in a while. I still read Scott Westerfeld whenever I can. I need to find The Risen Empire, but it's out pf print. I also need to finish the Faerie Wars Chronicles.

11th grade was when I stopped reading so much. I like didn't have time. I think I read like 2ish books. But since then I have been reading more sophisticated books. Like Lolita, Pride and Prejudice, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST!!!!!!!!!!! I have serious love for those last two books.

There was one book I had to hide though. It's Zakkenayo. It's one of my naughty Japanese language books. Had some drawings in it. Yeah.

I've never had to hide any of my manga as no one in my house even bothers to look at it. I don't have really naughty manga anyways. Like the worst I have is anything by Watase Yuu or Yazawa Ai. Nothing really explicit.

So I really like reading.

(But if anyone was to check my browser history and see some of the fanfics I read, I would be in deep shit.)

ya, teen reading, writer's block, vampires are forever, homo ja nai!, harry potter
