Four stories up and a few hundred yards away, Severus Snape stood at a window, fixated, wholly ignoring a group of third year girls walking down the corridor at his back. Pale, spidery fingers clutched the sill, his nose an inch from the glass as he stared down at the two figures moving across the grounds below.
He had been gathering pieces of the puzzle on that freak Lupin for some time now. There was something going on with him, Severus was certain of that - all the sneaking around, the secretiveness, the very fact that Potter and Black would deign - in their godlike arrogance - to let someone like that hang around. Lupin missed at least a day of class every single month, like clockwork. Usually more. Oh, there were excuses, lies - he was ill, his mother was ill - Severus didn't believe a word of it. There was more to it, he knew there was. It'd been needling him for years, trying to figure out what it was he was up to, and now finally - finally - proof. Evidence. This time people would have to listen.
Breath quickening slightly in excitement (vindication), though he didn't yet understand what he was seeing, Severus watched keenly as Madam Pomfrey, inexplicably, led Lupin toward the Whomping Willow.
