The Puppet and the Dwarf by Slavoj Žižek

On love, or something like that:
  • The way - the ONLY way - to have an intense and fulfilling personal (sexual) relationship is not for the couple to look into each other's eyes, forgetting about the world around them, but, while holding hands, to look together outside, at a third point (the Cause for which both are fighting, to which both are committed).
  • Is not love, the shattering experience of falling in love, a break par excellence, the mother of all breaks, the opening up of the possibility of new possibilities? Consequently, is not love itself the supreme example of the "enigmatic term"? It refers by definition to an unknowable X, to the je ne sais quoi that makes me fall in love -- the moment that I can enumerate reasons why I love you, the things about you that made me fall in love with you, we can be sure that this is not love.
