You make sense...emodeceptionOctober 29 2005, 00:24:42 UTC
I like that you have much passion... but no direction. Micholangeolo once said "life without art is torture" meaning that although his life was full of the heartbreak from losing his family to the plague, disease, poverty, and ridicule he had art to make it into something tangible and known. In my opinion art isnt neccessarily aesthetic but more an aspect of human nature. Sadly most people dont see this. They go to an art show and look at a picture with a dry martini in hand. The picture is framed on an industrial and decayed looking wall composed by a pretentious individual with a face that looks to only have been shaped by comfortable living. They say "it is beautiful. The lines, they are perfectly parrallel and symetrical. This is the work of someone who understands mathematics and other such sciences that teach us good living" without any grasp of what they are really talking about.. but they nod their heads in agreement anyway and move one to the next display. This is wierd to me because these "artists" can only see what is directly in front of them and they lack the conceptual understanding of imagination and reality. They lack the contrast of what it really means to be desperate. For this reason its the asymmetry of art, the lack of parrallel lines, the smudges of inperfection that are more tangible to me because we are all the same but most perfer to ignore this more often then not. So I agree that people lack that "spark" your talking about and in turn you yourself end up so far displaced when you write these asymmetrical compositions. Its the same in music or movies or anything else that spills from its sides every idea that you have kept in the back of your head but have never been able to make sense of. I get that same effect you are talking about when I listen to sigur ros or see a movie that accuratly portrays something you are completely integrated into and never knew it. Its the artists who make sense of ideas, it is them who are always changing and deperetly trying to keep up with changing times. In contrast, it is the pretentious artist who lives for sheer lights and sounds that cant get to sleep at night because there is no such thing as a facade in the dark. There is no one to see it. Point being. Make something that runs against the current structure. Dig deep into the fact that pharmesudical companies kill thousands of peeple so that you may enjoy something like... tylenol or asprain or whatever they say you need for healthy living as they exponentialy raise the threshold of neccesity. But trust me when I say its all out there and it may be the people you are around at times that keep you from reality. But these are just my crazy ideas to undermine the systematic decay of personal integrity. Stay hungry.
