Ear-splitting military sonar is needlessly threatening populations of whales and other marine mammals throughout the world's oceans. These creatures have extremely sensitive hearing, and sonar can interfere with their ability to navigate, avoid predators, find food, care for their young and, ultimately, survive.

Unfortunately, the U.S. Navy has refused to take common-sense steps during peacetime testing and training to protect marine life. In response to this dangerous breach of our bedrock environmental laws, NRDC is waging a campaign of courtroom action and public pressure to compel the Navy to restrict its use of deadly sonar.
