Tutorial 001: Playing around with gradients and textures

This is my first icon tutorial. So feedback and lots of feedback would be lovely and how I could improve my explanation/technique. I never got around to doing icon tutorials because I tend to have a lot of layers and play around with a lot of filters for my icons. Gorgeous icon, easy to follow :D!

Just thought I might note this, it doesn't work so well with light images, go for darker images ^__^

Can't believe I missed that out, this tutorial if followed almost exactly does indeed work better for darker images.

But it is possible to use light images if you use different colors/gradients/textures. You'll just end up with a different sort of result. But it's basically just the concept that I'm trying to show. So it doesn't really matter whether the image is dark or light.

[Actually it is possible to use light images using the the first half of the tutorial because the dark blue layer under exclusion mode and the bluish gradient under lighten mode creates a dull look, which makes things possible.]

But thank you so much for pointing that out anyway! :D
