I can't really stay up too late tonight. I have to get up early to go see my girlfriend, Linda Blair (who you may know from The Exorcist). Oh, and other people too I guess.
I have to admit, I had to think about this one a bit. Very seldom do I feel "guilty" for liking a game. If I like a game, I like it and that's that. But if it's a game that I KNOW is pretty bad but still enjoy, I guess I could consider that a guilty pleasure...
CALLING - WII - 2010
Calling, also known as WHO WAS PHONE?: The Video Game, is basically a poor man's Fatal Frame only instead of a camera you are armed with a cell phone. Hey, it was either going to be this or Hamtaro: Ham-Ham Heartbreak for the GBA. X-Blades is a potential guilty pleasure game too, but I haven't gotten around to starting that yet. Anyway, back to Calling. For some reason it has become my duty to purchase every survival horror game available on the Wii. I even got The Grudge game, but that's not a guilty pleasure. That's just a piece of shit. Calling's gameplay is basically a less shitty version of The Grudge game: you wander around and ghosts pop out to give you a scare. They can also call your cell phone and it actually comes from the Wii remote speaker, which is a nice touch.
Calling probably isn't what one would consider a good game. The controls can be a little off (but again, compared to The Grudge game, this shit is Game of the Year material), the voice acting is horrible, and it's easy to get lost and not really know where to go. But for reasons I can't explain I actually enjoy Calling. I'm a sucker for survival horror games but I have a feeling even most survival horror fans would write this game off. It probably wasn't worth the $30 I spent on it (oh, who am I kidding? It definitely wasn't worth the $30 I spent on it!) but, who cares, I like it. It's a great game to play with a group of friends to get in some cheap scares and laughs. I haven't even beat it yet--I left off somewhere in the second world (I think) trying to avoid getting raped by an overweight little girl ghost and her two buddies.
YOU FOUND MY PHONE. I'M COMING TO GET IT BACK... OKAAAAAAAY?!
