These are some of the things that usually irk me on the internet (definitions taken from
The Free Dictionary) :
SPAM E-mail that is not requested. Also known as "unsolicited commercial e-mail" (UCE), "unsolicited bulk e-mail" (UBE), "gray mail" and just plain "junk mail," the term is both a noun (the e-mail message) and a verb (to send it). Spam is used to advertise products or to broadcast some political or social commentary.
(jargon)
STUDLYCAPS (a.k.a Sticky Caps) - /stuhd'lee-kaps/ A hackish form of silliness similar to BiCapitalisation for trademarks, but applied randomly and to arbitrary text rather than to trademarks. ThE oRigiN and SigNificaNce of thIs pRacTicE iS oBscuRe.
The rest of the entry would be my side, as an avid internet user for several years and how n00bs irk me with this.
First of all, read the description of a n00b
here.
The following will be a rant about n00bs, not necessarily newbies who are just getting the hang of the internet, gaming or any other thing with technology, but the annoying n00bs.
It is very irritating, that n00bs use StIcKy CaPs and TypE LiKe ThIs! I mean, it's not only annoying, but using sticky caps usually take time. I can still tolerate people who forget to capitalize some words because it is normal to forget to push the shift key, but please! I mean sticky cappers might have taken 30 minutes to type something that a normal user might've typed for 5 minutes, just because they try to look cute by typing them that way. Well, let me tell you that it is not CUTE! Definitely isn't! It is a turn-off for most internet users and it is also difficut to read anything that is typed in StiCky CaPs.
And would you imagine someone who types a reaction paper (for school) in sticky caps just because he/she wants it to look cute on his/her webpage? Talk about being FORMAL.
Next, about the annoying spam issue. I mean, think about it, we already get spam, we are irritated about spam, and yet some people don't get it that chain letters ARE spam as well! Not to mention petty announcements that you can easily send to a person by his/her email rather than announcing it over the e-group or sending an insignificant message to a large group of people over Yahoo! Messenger or any other instant messaging service available. It is just insane! It's not just a waste of time for people to delete it, it's also a waste of time for people who send it. I mean, you don't really benefit from spamming, unlike real spammers, so why even spam? That is such a n00bish thing to do. You can just work on fulfilling your wishes, instead of forwarding chain letters to multitudes of people who won't even look at it and just forward because of some lame guarantee that their wish would come true.
It's a good thing that I was just irked by something I saw, or else I'd be ranting more.
So, now that the mood has run out on me, I feel better. Now, for something interesting:
LEET, usually written as "1337" in Leetspeak, is an online culture and/or attitude, as well as a language code, among the Internet population. The word itself is derived phonetically from the word "elite", and is a cipher, or cryptic form of spelling replacing letters with numbers, symbols, and other letters that look or sound alike.
Click on the link for LEET and if you're kept interested, you can read the whole article.
I didn't think Leetspeak was that sophisticated already, it used to irk me, but now I'm a bit fascinated about it. Not to mention, I use leetspeak sometimes ^_^'
Hee hee... oh well, that's it for passing the time... *sigh* about half an hour left before my next class -_-
