Saturday I went out and Sunday I went to Siena:
Self explanatory
Cosi likes to feed himself, which results in massive amounts of destruction
This is Liz and I in the "Lion's Den" after two Italian men tried to "talk" to us while touching our backs. Ew.
The hour long bus ride

So Siena is a medieval city in the middle of these beautiful hills and it's just south of Florence. This is a watchtower from 1275ad. I decided that I wanted to climb the 500 steps it houses to get to the top, thankfully Liz (my roomie) and Lacey were game so up we went.
The staircase was REALLY skinny and we hit our heads a lot. I guess people back in the day were a bit smaller. The climbing wasn't that bad actually, but the decent was terrible. The steps are smoothed from use so our feet kept slipping, our heads kept hitting the brick and sometimes I didn't think it was wide enough for us to get through. It was awesome.
The top! This is the main piazza in Siena. The eight sections in the brick represent the eight bodies of government or something. It's built at an angle so you can just lay down in the sun, it's beautiful. There were so many people.
One of the views. All of the streets are hilly and skinny, there's nothing conventional about the city besides the modern day stores. It's kind of weird to see United Colors of Benneton in the middle of an ancient city.
After lunch we went to their Duomo. It reminded me of Beetlejuice because the pillars inside are stripped black and white marble. The ceiling was insane, they painted it a beautiful blue with lots of bright stars, it almost looked fake. The entire floor was marble pictures that resembled sketches. I actually saw the original sketches in the museum we went to before it. OoOOoooo
Then after all of our walking and climbing we had the BEST GELATO IN THE WORLD. OMG it was so good. SO GOOD. I was the happiest girl in the world. I wanted to document my excitement.
The story behind this picture is funny. After our gelato we were kind of full and sleepy so we decided to find the bus terminal. After an hour excursion we finally found it and managed to buy tickets. The woman told us the next bus was in ten minutes (3:40) and I was a very happy girl. However, she lied. It was Sunday so buses were infrequent and the next bus, we found out an hour later, was at 5:40! Anyways, we had a glass of wine (otherwise we would've killed someone or each other) and walked back to the stop at 5:00. There must have been fifty people waiting already. I wasn't sure which slot it would pull into so I made Lacey stand at the end (orange sweater), Liz stand in the middle (red umbrella) and me at the end. Ten minutes before the bus arrived it was complete chaos. It started pouring, people were tired and pissed. It was a mess. Finally the bus pulls up and it starts coming to me (woo!) but this Italian man decides HE is going to pound on the door so it stops for him. He not only does this, but ELBOWS me to get out of his way so that he can race on before anyone. Everyone was retarted and running. I got on a put my bag on the two seats across from me for Liz and Lacey and this fat American woman SITS on it. Okay, that's fine but my camera is in it so I freak out. "Excuse me! I'm saving those", "Ugh you can't save them", "I have been here for two hours", "Me too" blah blah. Long story short her fat husband found a seat in the back so she left. It's not over. Another bus pulls up behind us and it's a "rapide" bus, which goes directly to Florence (do not pass go), our is a "directe" bus which is the "scenic route". Liz says to stay put because we're on and we have a seat. The bus behind us fills up and then another rapide bus pulls up. The American couple from Alabama plus some others run off of our bus to catch the last one, only to find out that it's full! Then our bus driver doesn't let them back on because our bus is full. Now they are stuck outside, in the pouring rain, with no bus to Florence. I felt bad, but they should've stayed put!
On Saturday I saw this guy:
To be honest I didn't think it would be amazing. I've seen the Mona Lisa, she wasn't that great and I assumed it would be similar. The only time my heart has ever sunk when I've seen art was the first time I saw Francis Bacon at the MoMa last year (and then again when they had him in another show). When I turned the corner I can't explain what it felt like. Life changing, that's all I've got for ya. He's massive! Huge! And he has the hottest hands in the world.
I dont even know if that was worth writing about, it was way longer than I wanted it to be.
Anyways so I only have Italian today, but that means that I have nothing to do all day. I'm going to the library at 2:00 to read for tomorrow and then later I need to sketch more. I'm obsessed with sketching the human anatomy because Olivia has so many books and it seems to be the only thing I can actually draw without embarassing myself. I tried drawing a Da Vinci sketch and it looks like the Hamburgler. I think for my Birthday I might go visit Vikki in London and that makes me excited, but the euro to pound ratio is almost 2euro for 1pound, gross. I've got nothing else for you so farewell.
Oh yeah, all of the girls at school who wear bands around their head look like idiots.
Until next time, keep it real.
