Under a Willow Tree - just voice and guitar, very sad, aching tone, painstakingly lovely.
Of Skins and Tresses - from the Love Charms era, VERY close to that album's sound.
Coffee Morning - demo of a charming, absurdly cute folk-pop song that eventually ended up on this year's Birch Book -- in the liner notes here, B'eirth says that he's fantasized about getting rich from selling it for use in a coffee commercial.
On a Butterfly's Wing and Mistress of the Revels - two more quiet, melodic just-voice-and-guitar numbers.
Ring-o-the-Rascal - if you saw IGR when they played with Unto Ashes at Alchemy a couple summers ago, you heard this -- very playful, about sleeping, has a waltz feel.
But the most interesting thing, at least to me, on the cd has to be "The Lord of Man." It's a live recording of B'eirth, Michael Moynihan, and Annabel Lee performing a narrative, very medieval song about starving villagers enduring winter and rescuing a kidnapped girl from a villain's castle ... for ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN!!!!!!!! B'eirth narrates -- speaking, not singing -- and at one point breaks into a sinister growl. There's a few moments where the music stops completely and B'eirth and -- I think -- Moynihan act out dialogue in a rather over-the-top fashion. Then, they resume playing, breaking into a furious jig, and you can hear the children stomping along quite fervorously. When the songs ends, the children cheer with overwhelming enthusiasm. I can't help but think that their teachers would have a heart attack if they knew of Moynihan's "suspect" reputation!

My favorite tracks off vol. 1 are far and away Bedlam Boys and Rosehip November (esp.). Great band...they need to tour more!

I really, really wants to obtain and read both volumes of TYR ...
Those happen to be my two favorites, too. They're beautiful. "Are We Lost" is a close third, though. If you like the female singer, Margie Wienck, in Roseship, then you may like her band, Fern Knight (www.fernknight.com and/or www.myspace.com/fernkight). I've seen her play with B'eirth twice. Very good.
In Gowan Ring needs to tour more? B'eirth only did the northeast at least *twice* last year! He'll be around again soon enough, I'm sure! ;)
