Michael Laird asked me to repost here my recap of the 11/21 CBGB gig -- originally posted in
this entry in my LiveJournal.
Here is the relevant excerpt from my entry:
Went to see Unto Ashes perform at CBGB's tonight. In a few days they start their European tour, albeit without Mariko, due to a scheduling conflict. Standing in for her tonight and on tour was Ericah Hagle, resplendent in a green and black dress that looked stunning on her.
This was my first time seeing them play live and it was delightful! They did a wonderful job performing pieces both old and new in a melange of favorites and rarities.
The set started off with "Serve Me" then continued with classics like "I Cover You With Blood", "Morte o Merce" and "Palastinalied" interspersed with selections from their new album Grave Blessings such as "In Memory of D'drennan". One of my favorites was their shimmering rendition of the Blue Oyster Cult classic "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" -- I considered that to be one of the highlights of the night. In a nod to the upcoming holiday season they also included a holiday-themed piece, "Krampusnacht", in the set before finishing off with an a cappella rendition of "Starvation Song".
There's more about that evening in my LJ entry, if you are interested in reading about it.
