It was my first relay and I will definitely sign up again next year. I wanted more of my friends to come but they had prior commitments. That's how I ended up hanging out with N. My intentions are to get more people to sign up next year. There are so many young people who don't realize that cancer affects us, too. We're just so use to feeling invincible.

Most types of cancer hit really close to home for me. It doesn't surprise me that ovarian cancer would be found in someone so young. With the increase of HPV especially it would not surprise me to learn that ovarian cancer rates have increased in young women. I've known someone in my immediate or extended family or a good friend who has been plagued with cancer, threatened by it, or killed by it in several different forms. My mother is threatened by lung cancer because of her smoking, but thankfully she hasn't developed anything yet [although the scare does not stop her smoking], my grandfather died of brain cancer, my uncle died of cancer as well, my other uncle is battling bowel/testicular cancer [not sure of the specifics, he doesn't like to talk about it], my aunt passed away from breast cancer, I had a coworker and friend pass away from cancer a few years ago as well, ovarian cancer is also something that constantly threatens me, and so on and so forth. /ramble ( ... )

Thanks for the compliments. :)

Actually, I've had a few members of my family diagnosed with cancer in some form...my grandfather died from lung cancer when I was younger. That's part of the reason why I don't smoke. I think the other family members are women but, sadly, we don't really talk about it.

I can't really think of a reason why I never participated in a Relay before...I guess, it was partly a way to avoid the subject.
