It's official. I am finally making an honest attempt at leaving Flint. Leaving Flint isn't the issue at hand here, because we all know that I love and care about this city, it's more about actually doing something for the first time in my semi-adult life.
Tonight I began my application for City Year. It's a year of full-time service working with kids by mentoring, tutoring and planning after school programs. The benefits are perfect, and so is the job description. After looking through all of the cities and seeing what exactly they're all about I decided to apply for New York. Even though I wanted to go to Chicago the New York program appeals much more to me. It focuses more on literacy and creativity.
I'm really, really eager to finish up the application and wait and see what happens. I really hope that this is finally the right decision, and I really hope that I get accepted. If I don't, I move along. There are many more programs like this that I could get involved it. And as we all know my hometown needs help as well. But, keep your fingers crossed or prayers a flowin' or just send some good thoughts my way, whatever it is that you all do. And hopefully in August I'll be on my way to New York City :)
