Beta Rules
01. You must be dependable. I generally write about a chapter or two a week, so I need someone who will be online at least a couple of times a week to read what I've posted.
02. You must have good spelling and grammar. I tend to get caught up in writing and end up making silly mistakes, so I need someone who will be able to recognize those typos and let me know what needs to be fixed. I'm talking about obvious typos, word choice, and using the wrong word [ie: they're/there/their, write/right, to/too, etc.]. Also, I'm looking for people who can catch other mistakes such as inconsistencies in the plot. I have most of the backstories for the all of the characters set in my head, but sometimes I get carried away and might say one thing in one chapter and then say something else in a different chapter, so I need you to be able to pick up these things throughout the story.
03. You need to be honest. I don't want to be told that something is great if it's not. If something doesn't flow right to you, you have to be able to let me know. I can take constructive criticsm, but I do prefer to be told nicely. Ultimately, I'll decide what I feel is right, but I do take other people's opinions into account, so I want your input on how things are sounding.
04. If you are chosen as a beta, you cannot share it with anyone else. I'm only selecting a few people to read it and edit it before I share it with everyone else, so when I post a chapter for editing, it's for your eyes only.
Other Notes
This is how I think the process will work. As I finish a chapter, I'll post it. Only the betas for that story will be able to see it. As you read it, you can make a note of any typos or other mistakes you find and leave them all as a comment. Also if anything seems off to you, please let me know.
This is how I'd like to see comments with the typos and errors formatted.
Most of the orginal sentence here
The retyped setence here with the the error CAPITALIZED.
Basically, you'll be seeing the rough draft of each chapter, so you'll have first dibs at reading the chapters and giving me your feedback. I cannot stress enough times that I don't want to be told that it's great if it's not. If you really enjoy it as is, then great, but if not, any constructive criticism is more than welcome.
I know I've made it sound like a huge job, but sometimes people tend to be a bit lax in the area of feedback, so I want to make it clear what I'm looking for here. If I haven't scared you away with the details of the job, then please let me know if you're interested. Also, you can choose to be a beta for all of the stories I'm working on, or you can choose just one. It's entirely up to you. I'm hoping to find at least three people for each story though. The more sets of eyes there are the more likely all of the typos/errors will be found, which helps me a lot!
Current Projects
These are the stories I'm currently working on, so if you want to be a beta, leave a comment and tell me which story/stories you're interested in betaing. As I finish these stories and start new ones, I'll make a post about the new projects asking for betas, so please keep your eyes open for that as well. :)
Buried Beneath [You need to have already read
Something That Can't Be Explained]
Distorted Blessings [You need to have have already read through Chapter 36] FINISHED
EchoHappily Ever After Doesn't Exist (sequel to
Bed of Lies) [It is complete, but in dire need of editing,]
If I happen to write a short story, which probably won't happen too often, it will be posted for all betas to read. :)
See ya on the other side!
