Bad News...
For anybody who hasn't heard (and if you haven't, it isn't because we think less of you, it has just been the last few days have been a blur) Laura's sister Lisa passed away at about 5:20 PM this afternoon due to heart failure. She was originally admitted to the hospital in Calvert County last Thursday night with pnumonia, but they ended up airlifting her to Washington Medical Center the next day. Turns out that the heart valve she had replaced had become calcified, and in addition to her other valves failing due to problems getting her properly oxygeniated, her heart was basically failing. Once it became apparent that open heart surgery wasn't an option, the family made the decision to remove her from life support, and she passed quietly a few minutes later with all of us around her. We're home at the moment, but probably heading down to Laura's parents' house tomorrow at some point to help plan the funeral.
Needless to say, Laura is pretty broken up, since she was holding out hope till the end that Lisa could bounce back (and if history was any indication, it was a strong possiblity... she had been given Last Rites about 5 times in her life). We're trying to be in contact with everybody, but at this rate, it is kind of nuts. I don't know how (since her parents have dial-up), but I'll try to get viewing & funeral arrangements posted here.
