a few days ago, insomnia hit me again, so i was just sitting in bed watching MTV at 4am. the videos went off, and one of the "fight for your rights" programs came on. this one was about the double standard. christina aguilera came on the screen, and started talking about all the shit she got for the dirrty video, but when you see rap videos, these girls are being degraded but the guys don't get any shit for it. but a girl like christina comes out, and shes confident in her sexuality, and everyone is like "OMG WHAT A SLUT"
as someone thats been called a slut just because i used to have a lot of guy friends, the double standard is one of the most important issues to adress, at least in my opinion. guys are ENCOURAGED to sleep around, but if you're a girl, and you're with like.. 3 guys, you're a slut... it doesn't stop there though, theres a catch-22... if you're not sexual enough, you're a prude and if you have a boyfriend he may dump you for not sleeping with him. and god forbid you're a sexual girl who carries condoms - some guys said on the show they view that as a sign that she's easy because shes "expecting sex"
come on girls. we're in the 21st century, and we can do things our moms and other women before us only dreamed of doing, so why can't we follow christina aguilera's lead and start working to get rid of that double standard. we can do everything guys can, but be sexually confident. just know that you can say no and it doesn't make you a prude, and you can say yes and it doesn't make you a slut.
