So after hearing a terrible five second clip of "Slow Hands" on school network TV today I broke down and bought the new Interpol album. Here's what I can tell after the first listen:

+

the combination of "Narc" and "Evil" is, more or less, the best one-two I've heard all year
the album cost me five bucks
the keys add a lot on certain songs, especially "A Time To Be So Small"

-

the last half of the record is very weak
"Public Pervert" is probably one of their lesser songs
the band isn't the answer to Joy Division, like most people seem to think, or want

I think I'm going to like this one. I can tell if I'm going to like an album from the first few minutes, similar to that of meeting people and forming opinions on them. The beginning of "Next Exit" gives me an extremely good vibe, a kind of smirking vibe, with the keys, and then the vocals and guitar coming in. It's almost surf-like, and it does a great job of setting up the rest of the album, just like the opener on Bright Lights did.

I think I'm going to stop typing now.
