Library rant

So, you know, the purpose of a library is mostly to loan you items, right?

I stopped at the local one on my way home from work hoping to pick up some of the Dark is Rising series because they are the awesomest children's books ever and my cousins spent the entire family vacation making references to them.  I was also looking for some of the books on Time's list of 100 best books from a couple of years ago. The ones I was interested in were semi-classics, none written much later than the seventies and the Dark books started coming out in 1935, I think. It's not like we're talking about new releases or trashy romance paperbacks from thirty years ago here.

Anyway, out of the seix (seven?) Dark books and the twelve I had on my list from Time, my local library owned a grand total of one copy of one of the books, helpfully listed as *lost*. GRRRRR.  But that's ok, they have a copy of every People and Entertainment Weekly that's come out in the last seven years.  That's as long as the US government holds on to your income tax filings!

Maybe this will teach me to actually look online and see what the library actually has before I show up.  Or just go to Amazon or Borders or something.
