#35 Fast Girls
This is one of those sports movies that teriwithbraids would probably really enjoy and a cast full of British actors that I've always loved. Lenora Crichlow from Being Human, Bradley James from Merlin, Noel Clark from Doctor Who and Phillip Davis from Being Human.
This was very much an 'overcome all obstacles' sports movie centered are GB sprinters/relayers, and I just enjoyed it very much. I even teared up at the end.
#36 The Fat Kid Chronicles
JJ picked this one out thinking that it was a comedy that one of his school buddies had told him about. It wasn't (and the actual comedy turned out to be a rated R thing that I need to talk to his buddy's mother about). It was a very realistic look at the kinds of issues kids in junior high and high school face and how they choose to overcome them or not. Such a very good story and one I'm glad JJ and I watched together.

Channing Tatum as a gimp - OMFG!
Seth Cohen as Seth Cohen, James Franco as James Franco and so on and so forth. I like Cohen, I can't stand Franco, so I was really surprised by how much I loved this movie. It's the typical kind of Seth Cohen comedy with just enough omg mixed with some heart and a full on apocalypse. There's even one place where I damn near jumped out of my skin. Emma Watson has an awesome cameo and Channing Tatum...oh my dear God!
#38 Mansfield Park
Jeremy bought me the full set of Jane Austen books a few years ago and this was always one of my favorites. I always viewed Mansfield Park as Jane's way of writing herself, as Fanny Price, into a perfect world where she can be a well-read as she likes and has the love and attention of not one or two, but three men. Her uncle, who comes to dote on her when she grows up into a beautiful woman, her cousin Edmund, who is as close to a soulmate as any of us could hope for, and the rich and very handsome Henry Crawford. But although Mr Crawford begs for her attention and later her hand, she doesn't trust him and puts him off, hoping that Edmund will realize that he is in fact in love with her.
I really enjoyed this version and its really great cast.
#39 Red Doors
This was a bit confusing. Don't be confused yourself, because i did honestly enjoy this. Quite a lot, actually, but i was still confused through most of the film. I was confused because i didn't know how i was supposed to feel. The film centers on a highly disfunctional Chinese-America family. Dad is 60, seemingly happily married with three beautiful daughters, but he can't seem to enjoy his new retirement because he's a failure at the one thing he really wants...to end his own life. That's right, Dad's suicidal. And every time he attempts to end it all, he gets unluckily interrupted by his teenage daughter, Katie. Katie is the youngest. A real individual, she's your typical teenager that has to fly her own flag which includes front-running a hip hop dance squad at school and starting the ultimate prank war with the boy she has a crush on. Well, actually he starts it. But she ends it by setting off a fireworks display in his locker that puts her in a sling, him on crutches and proudly displaying an eye patch. But they end up together, so all is good. Also...he's Sebastian Stan, so yeah...I'd blow him up too if it gained his attention.
Second daughter Julie, is single and successful but struggling to find a good man until she realizes that she's gay and hooks up with a popular actress right in front of her typically oblivious mom. Whoops! Oldest daughter Sam is engaged to be married to a man. Mom is super excited. Mozilla is pushing for her to wear a more traditional dress in red. Problem is Sam has realized that not only does she not want to wear the red dress, she also doesn't want to marry her fiancé. She's more interested in the ex-boyfriend turned high school music teacher. And now dad's run away from all the crazy women in his house to join a Buddhist monastery.
So yes, I just have you the entire movie, but this was only to demonstrate why I was so confused. 90% of the movie was cute and funny, but I was never quite sure how to feel about Dad.

SnowpiercerThis movie was Wow. And I'm afraid it'll never see the light of day in the US theatres.(yes, that's right, I watched it online) I read something online about Harvey Weinstein buying the rights and then fucking its US release because he wanted to cut a bunch out and dumb it down for US audiences.
“TWC (The Weinstein Co) people have told Bong (Joon-ho, director) that their aim is to make sure the film ‘will be understood by audiences in Iowa… and Oklahoma.’” That's right, Vanessa...they insulted the BOTH of us, those bastards!
So here's the plot. Some super smart scientists discover that they can slow global warming by broadcasting a chemical over our atmosphere, but the reaction is not what they intend. The world freezes, killing off everything except a special group of people that are able to board a self-sufficient train that zooms around the world. Except for those stuck at the back of the train, life is anything but special. After 18 years aboard, the 'no class' passengers storm to the front in an attempt to take over. This film is all about sacrifice and what it really takes to be human. It's cast is seriously wonderful! Chris Evans (yeah, I know...shut up), John Hurt, Octavia Spencer, Jamie Bell, Tilda Swinton, Ed Harris. Seriously, if you get the chance...watch it. And if it ever comes to Iowa or Oklahoma, I'm going to stage a HUGE viewing party with a big Fuck You Harvey Weinstein banner.
#41 The Normal Heart
I don't think we really have to talk about this, but just in case any of my other LJ friends are reading this...if you haven't watched HBO's The Normal Heart, go do so immediately. This film adaptation of Larry Kramer's play focuses on the 1980's AIDs epidemic in New York. It was such a fantastic, heartbreaking movie starring a rich cast of actors such as Mark Ruffalo, Julia Roberts, Jim Parsons, Matt Bomer.
#42 Red2
I think I enjoyed the first one better. Red = retired & extremely dangerous, former CIA agents being hunted down by our own government for their believed involvement in weapons of mass destruction operation called nightshade. It's fun but for me, it was one of those movies you don't have to pay too much attention to because it hasn't got a lot of depth. RED (the first) was definitely better.
#43 Unstoppable
Holy shit!! This was awesome, on the edge of my seat entertainment based on actual events. Denzel Washington and Chris Pine attempt to stop a full-powered runaway train loaded with high flammable toxic chemicals as it powers into a densely populated Pennsylvania city. So many heart-stopping moments that are only made more tense when you consider that this really happened.
