I can pay you the going rate for private tutoring. A bonus if you're any good at it. I'm busy with my book right now so it wouldn't be more than an hour or two a week.
Mr. Frey, do you really want to know anything about my circumstances, or would you like me to tell you I'm asking because I have great admiration for you and your work and am happy to pay for the privlege of having you as a tutor? Because I can do both, but the second one is probably much more interesting to you.

Don't put words in my mouth. Why you would think the latter of these options would be my preference, I cannot possibly imagine. If I was still hung up on praise and blame, I wouldn't malign everyone with whom I came in contact. The circumstances, if you will.
I don't want to go back to Japan. Unfortunately America is very stingy about who they let stay, especially now. Mr. Benson asked me to write the screenplay for a film project, which would extend my work Visa.
For the sake of future work, not to mention my own pride, I intend to do a good job. So I'd like your help to learn how to to a good job.

Mm. I see.
[A very, very long pause]
Very well. My class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, and I have a bi-monthly commitment for a lecture series. The rest of the week is reserved for op-ed writing and my personal work.
I'd be appalled if you did.

Too much paperwork. Also I don't play well with others.

It's not, you just don't know the details. I was given an offer. It would extend my Visa.
