☸ 3rd Log ☸ Passing over Troubled Waters

It was sunset and the Pearl was out on open waters between Africa and India. The Pearl was making excellent time within the week and a half since her departure from Portugal. Jack left the helm to Mr. Cotton as he overlooked the horizon from the castle above the quarters he and Elizabeth shared. In the week and a half, they managed to fight like cats and made up with laughs and a little rum before lights out. Still, the temptation was a constant presence. Jack managed to make the hammock a comfortable place once he lowered it enough to slip in and out of easily.

His crew went through their routines of playing games and some light gambling waging their shore leave hours against the other. The loser would have to take the watches instead of betting hard earned wages and their plunder. They were a bit surprised that Jack hadn't said many words since they left European waters.

"Captain. Are we on the right course?" A new member of the crew, Jasper Longcoat, asked. He was a boy barely out of his mother's grasp that sneaked his way on board during loading. Jack wasn't particularly thrilled to have someone so young aboard but it was too late to turn back when precious time was being used to take Elizabeth to her destination.

"Aye. Mind your station, lad. We have a long way to travel yet." Jack responded calmly. He was more interested in what awaited them than worrying about the young man at the moment. He'll have to deal with that issue another time.

"Aye, Captain." The boy bounded off happily. Jack smiled slightly at the eager nature he had which mirrored his own when he was that age. Jack watched for a little bit before he lowered his head to look at his compass. Something was on his mind and it wasn't about the destination. He turned his head up to look over his shoulder at the waters. It has been a while since he sailed these waters and a long time still that he would return to his home shores.
