It appears this is to be my second entry of the year, so so much for trying to write and journal more. I suppose it's been a mix of not feeling like writing, and being way to busy to do so. I've had much to write about, but when one is absorbing everything like an obsessive sponge, one must recall these topics at a later date.
The move back to CO was most pleasant; I discovered the wondrous effects of Dramamine and cheap rest-stop machine coffee, and was able to read an X Files published fanfic for the good five hours it takes to plow through most of Nebraska. The day after I spent sharing photography with my aunt, who inspired me to actually print and organize my photos in albums. We also went to breakfast in Morrison, and I remembered with a warm shiver how nice it is to be in and around the mountains and the mountain hippies, and also gay people. I guess I never noticed it growing up here, but there are so many restaurants, shops, cultural differences and scenic views. Moving away from a place for a while definitely makes it refreshing to return.
I had never been to Fort Collins, but everyone said they loved it and I would to. Thus far, it's satisfying. Kim, Nick and I make dinners with good stuff--not microwave Easy Mac and packaged hot dogs (although I have fond memories of hot dog nights with Stephany). I feel that this is what I wanted as far as living: a kitchen, a bathroom, distance from campus, responsibility and independence, and a cat (who has taken a liking to having another lap around.)
I do still feel the third-wheel syndrome, and can only hope it's my own paranoia and adjustment inefficiencies that bring that on. I know it'll change when classes start, and I'm very used to living, studying, chilling, and going places with big groups of friends. The three of us aren't a big group, and we get along great, but they need their time, too.
I made a friend on orientation day, but I do hope the English department here is as tightly-knit as the one I'm coming from. Going to class should have that good supportive feeling because all your comrades are there too. I had a great group in Bemidji and I do miss them. But there's so much to do here and so many new people to meet. Chances are good I'll find some more special ones. In the meantime, I've got a fantastic new library to explore, and no less than 5 new coffee shops.
