My Writes

Oct 13, 2010 13:15

I consider myself an editorial writer. The recording and presenting of hard-facts holds little interest for me, and I don't like telling people things they already know, or can find out on a simple search engine homepage. No, I'd much rather write my feelings, thoughts and opinions because they are mine, they can't be duplicated, they haven't been written the same before, and they can't be destroyed.

I aim not to persuade (unless writing a review), and I can be cynical, sarcastic, unconventional, and even offensive in my opinions, but as I said before, they are mine; my truth and honesty. My mom always tells me "sometimes being a bitch is all a woman's got to hold on to". I'm bringing out my bitch, and she's got plenty to say.

I despise unintelligent, attack-style rambles that only blame, hurt, rant, and complain in completely ineffectual ways, but since I recognize what this is to begin with, I don't think I'll be letting myself slip into said genre of writing. Instead, I'll write with the attitude my nonfiction instructor could only describe as "tough but wonderful". Rants have indeed been decreed a valid genre of nonfiction, but it's a slippery talent to be able to write them considerately enough so that they are publishable, appropriate, and even admirable.

I do not intend upon making everyone smile. That is what television is for.
