Last night, I was out pretty late. I watched some dolphins do some neat tricks and say "So long, and thanks for all the fish." I did so while sitting next to a highschool friend who's gone through some troubled times, and still isn't quite out in the clear yet...
After the movie, we both went to yet another highschool friend's place, and talked of the good ol' days, and all the stuff that's happened in between. Needless to say it was a good time, and was an overall "moving" experience. At about 3am, I headed home feeling pretty happy.
I quietly pulled up the driveway, turned off the ignition. I was simply expecting to go inside and fall asleep, but as I grabbed my stuff from the car, I looked up at the sky. It was moving. I was confused. Why were the clouds moving so strangely? So... quickly... so, whispy.... Then it dawned on me - I wasn't looking at clouds, I was looking at aurora borealis. I had my camera with me, so I dropped my bag and took photos while being absolutely bewildered by the sights.
Since I was at home, I decided I should get my parents to go look. So, I called them, strangely my mom was still awake at this hour.
Now for the strange part - or well, what I found strange anyway.
The aurora borealis is otherwise known as the "Northern Lights" - caused by energetic wind from the sun spiraling along the magnetic field lines of the earth, and collecting at the POLE. Right? Well what I saw were waves coming up from the horizon, in all directions, and collecting in this distorted circular ring directly above me. It looked really weird. Unfortunately, I did not have a nice wide-angle lense, so I couldn't get the full effect in a shot... but here are a few.
