I absolutely love Jennifer Hale. The characters she voices can be cool, sexy, funny, or downright scary. She's had a great career, so this year, I've decided to list my top ten favorite voices of hers.
10) Alana (Little Mermaid III: Ariel's Beginning) - Because I just can't help myself
9) Cinderella (Cinderella II: Dreams Come True, House of Mouse, Cinderella III: A Twist in Time, Kingdom Hearts) - For real, this time, Jennifer Hale's outing as this classic Disney princess works quite well
8) Ice (Batman: The Brave and the Bold) - Ice was funny and had a good accent to boot
7) Mallory McMallard (The Mighty Ducks) - Hale gave her a tough action girl voice
6) Zatanna (Justice League Unlimited, Batman: The Brave and the Bold) - Her Zatanna is fun and playful, the complete opposite of what you'd expect from a magic character, but in perfect character for Zatanna
5) Mary Jane Watson Parker (Spider-Man Unlimted, various Spider-Man games) - She does a damn good MJ, but the reason she's so high on this list is because of the Playstation game where you're trying to rescue MJ from Venom and she's yelling at you the entire time. It's funny.
4) Giganta (Justice League/Unlimited) - Her Giganta was not only tough but she had some funny lines as well.
3) Julia Carpenter/Spider-Woman (Iron Man: TAS) - I loved Julia, especially her romance with Tony in season 2. She was a tough character (as CEO of Stark Enterprises) but she also had a softer more vulnerable side (especially since in "The Armor Wars"). Jennifer Hale got to show a wide range in this role.
2) Killer Frost (Justice League/Unlimited, Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Young Justice) - Jennifer Hale is the DEFINITIVE voice for Killer Frost. She may hold the record for voicing the same character in so many different incarnations (and video games aside, no one else has voiced Killer Frost), and she's great at it. Particularly in the DCAU, Killer Frost was violent, sadistic, and a little scary.
1) Felicia Hardy/Black Cat (Spider-Man: The Animated Series) - It wasn't easy picking this one, but not only was this my first real exposure to Jennifer Hale, but it's stuck with me all these years. She was one of the best VA's on the show, and while her Felicia was a bit of a stuck-up socialite, her Black Cat was adventurous and sexy. There's one bit in an episode before she becomes the Black Cat and after she breaks up with Jason Macendale where she says she feels cursed like a black cat that always sends chills down my spine.
Honorable mentions - Jean Grey (Wolverine and the X-Men), the Crow from Samurai Jack because it was hilarious, and Samus Aran because even though I've never played a Metroid game and don't know what she sounds like, Jennifer Hale voicing one of the most iconic video game heroines just makes sense.
Here's a clip of her recording an episode of Mighty Ducks with the rest of the cast:
