"Violating the Little Mermaid"

I hate to think what that would pull up on Google.

One of th things that cheeses me off most about these recent Disney cheapquels is how they violate the continuity of established TV shows and movies ALL THE TIME. And the sad thing is The Little Mermaid was one of the few Disney properties left that DIDN'T have a muddled continuity. Now I'm REALLT leery about this movie.

Care to give examples of other cheapquels that have done it? I'm sure there plenty, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. In this case, it's sort of understandable. It's about an early Ariel, so why not show how she met Flounder? The cartoon had a different version of their meeting, but that's like 15 years old at this point, and true, it is still run on the Disney Chanel, but I'm not that mad about it because it didn't really distract me.

In clips I've seen on TV, the king appears to have orange hair. Did he go completely gray in the span of a few years or something, because I'm a little confused as to how old Ariel would have to be before it happened. I'm a little afraid to see the movie. Why won't they leave it alone? I thought they were DONE with cheapuels?

The very beginning of the movie starts off when Ariel is 6 and we see her whole family (including her mother), then something happens, and then the main plot of the movie starts about ten years after that, where Triton now has gray hair. I guess that's a believable amount of time for a merman to have all his hair change.

Maybe this movie's been in production a while. Setting a movie before the original movie isn't a bad idea because they actually did have some good material to work with, but, well, it was cheap.

Yeah, don't go out of your way or anything. I liked it because I like the Little Mermaid, but it was nothing special. Although Rob Paulson does a couple hilarious voices.
