Meat pies? Okay ...

A few years back, I finally forced my DH to read some actual fiction (actually, the Harry Potter books).  Prior to that he'd been strictly a history/non-fiction kind of guy.  But oddly, he would watch absolutely any fantasy or SF movie that came along, and enjoy it.  Who knows.  But when the second HP movie came out and he kept asking me about plot lines, etc., I just dug in my heels and refused to answer, saying he needed to read the books.

Well.  I created a monster.  Sort of.  After he read all the HP books, a co-worker got him started on the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.  I guess they're well written, but WAY too graphic for me in many ways, so I got about 2 chapters into book 2 and gave up.  He, however, is on his second read through every book in the series (all 14? of them).  Hey, whatever makes him happy ...

What does this have to do with meat pies?  Well, a few weeks ago he asked me if I could make "meat pies."  I said, I guess?  But what does 'meat pies' look like to you?  He said, kind of a pot roast cooked meat with some vegetables in a crust.  I said, well heck, I can try, but I need to make a pot roast first, and to do that I need to get a bigger Crock-Pot.  My current one is the "mama bear" size, and once you put in 3-4 pounds of roast, there just isn't room for a lot of veggies, and I'm very big on veggies.

So yesterday I wandered into a store, and there on a shelf was the "papa bear" Crock-Pot in all its glory, marked down to $15!  I took this as A Sign, grabbed it, and will be pot-roasting next week, after the holidays are over.  Then, On To The Great Meat Pie Experiment!  (I'll report back on the results when I have them.)
