Radio Interviews

You know what? I hear radio interviews on NPR and CBC all the time and I haven't ever heard a guest tell the host to shut the fuck up. No, they're always pleasant and humorous, and that baffles me. If I was in a radio interview, I would ask the host, are you done with your question now? cause I would like to start answering it. I thought it was your job was to reveal opinions, not assert them. No? Ok well, I'll just get out my soldering iron while I wait. What am I doing? Oh dont pay any attention to me, I'm just wiring the microphone directly into your ear, cause you do like to hear yourself talk.

Last night I heard an interview with Philip Roth. It went like this:

woman: Ok, tell me about (pick one: how it feels / what it's like) to (blah blah blah), is it really (synonym for bad)? I mean, cause well it seems to me like that would be really (another synonym for bad). While I'm at it, here's my interpretation of (your book / the social climate in which it was written). I am done with my question now....HAH NO I'M NOT.... no, just kidding, I am.

Philip Roth: Well (blah blah blah. uh, by 'blah blah blah' I mean he gave an intelligent answer).

Here's one of the variations on that.
woman: You say you haven't read your early books in 30 years? Why not? Is it uncomfortable for you? Well like, I mean, (something about if noe's early works are really popular, one is living in one's own shadow). So does it make you uncomfortable? Does it?

Actually, it turned out (once she let him talk) that he just hadn't read them. If I had acually heard of Philip Roth prior to that and uned in for the occasion, I would have been right pissed off. Philip Roth is on! we get to hear what he has to say! Or.... who's that woman who won't shut up? It's not TV! If he's not talking, is he really there? Hey.... maybe he isn't. Maybe he's having a smoke. Maybe he's not coming back.
Let's talk about how that makes you FEEL.

By the way, I edited this because it had a lot of mis-typed words.
