I was listening to NPR yesterday while driving to and from the hospital and then running errands. There were a lot of interesting tidbits I learned. Like the average cost of raising a child in the U.S. is $222,000, not including college. There was some financial planning seminar for expectant parents, and the people who attended were mostly researchers and accountants (perhaps because these professionals have people more into planning?). Then there was some other study done on couples 55 and older where they asked three math questions. Those who got all three questions right had a net worth of $1.7 million, those who got them wrong had a networth in the $200K's. One of the questions was, "There are 10,000 people in a room and 1% leave, how many left?" They didn't share what the other two questions were.
