I'm totally preoccupied with choosing what apartment to move into in June. I feel like I should make the decision soon, like before March 17th which is match day and I'll have lots of other residents competing for the same apartments. I visited 4 of the 6 apartments I'm considering. The seemed roughly the same, except one was much nicer but a lot more expensive. They're all in the same area. So how do I choose?
I seems like a tough decision since I'll have to live with the decision for at least a year. And I don't have time to go back to Chicago to take another look. It wouldn't really help that much anyways, since the apartments really all look pretty similar. They have different prices depending on what floor and what floorplan the one you rent is, which makes it harder since I won't really know what my options are at different apartments before having to choose the building. So what it sounds like I do is fill out the application and pay the application fee. That puts me on a wait list. When an apartment becomes available (tennats need to give 60 day notices), then it is offered to the people on the wait list. So one day I may get an email/call, we have a studio available on the 12 floor of floor plan A for $1200, do you want it. Then I have to decide yes or no. I don't know how long I have to decide.
The places I'm considering are
McClurg Court Center (333 E. Ontario) - Closest to the hospital, I know a guy who lived there during med school and liked it, older building, complaints about it not being updated on the web, charges pet rent of $20/month per pet, have not visited myself
420 E Ohio - of the ones I visited, seemed like the best value, also the farthest from the hospital, but just a little bit
Onterie (441 E. Erie) - I also visited this one, they charge for their fitness center whereas it's included in all the others, more fees than the others, but was also one of the cheaper rents, fewest utilities included
Lakeshore Plaza (445 E. Onterio) - Also visited, also cheaper rent but more fees
Streeter Place (355 E Ohio) - Have not seen, they have a website that looks nice but is annoying to navigate and doesn't have a brochure you can download
The Streeter is also in the area but is super nice and super expensive. Well, they are all expensive but The Streeter is the most expensive. Strangely, it has the cheapest parking.
