"I really don't care," Remy said, turning his eyes back to his book.
Celia stomped towards him and plopped down in the seat beside him. "That's a lie and you know it. You care very much. I'm a very beautiful young maid and you can't deny that you'll miss me once I've left this company."
Remy rolled his eyes. "Let's try out your theory, then. Why don't you leave now and I'll let you know if I happen to miss you."
She ignored him. "I love Cyprian, and I think he loves me, as well. You just wait, Remy, you'll see."
He snorted. "He's attracted to other men, Celia."
"No he isn't! Stop saying that! He's the handsome knight - he has to fall in love with the beautiful maiden." She stuck her nose up and smiled smugly. "And I'm the beautiful maiden here."
"You can be as beautiful as any maid on earth, but I promise you that knight won't look twice." He glared at her. "Unfortunately, though, you don't even have the beautiful part going for you."

"Maybe if I wasn't as wealthy as I am, I'd even consider you." She shrugged casually, as though completely unaware that she had insulted him. "But I'm the type of girl who can aspire to marry a knight - or a handsome prince. That's my destiny."
Remy snorted. "And I suppose my destiny is to take care of a decrepit old wizard who's obsessed with flowers and doesn't even know his own name."
"Be content with what you have," Celia said, obviously unsure. "I... I'm sure that you'll do whatever it is you're supposed to, Remy. It just might... take some time."
He sighed and put down his plate. "Whatever you say, Celia. Of course, since you're obviously meant for such great things, I won't force my unworthy presence upon you." He stood up and shot her a strained, wry smile. "Good night."

"She seems intelligent," he said pulling off another petal.
The wizard immediately went to retrieve it, whimpering all the while.
"She certainly leads the knight around like a dog on a leash. He must either be in love with her or an idiot." He paused a moment, considering what he knew of Brodwick. "Or possibly even both."
