It's Raining, It's Pouring

LEMUR!  Here it is, so pay attention.  Nyah nyah nyah.

Reginald had green hair - by preference, not any sort of genetic fluke.  And though such dyed follicles might indicate a bias towards that particular color, he found that as he stared across the rows of eyeshadow - sea-foam, jade, forest, lime - he was beginning to loathe it.  The cosmetics aisle in his local discount department store was by far not Reg's favorite place to be.

He looked about aimlessly for a moment, trying to focus on the task he had been sent to do.  Find mascara.  He was not entirely sure where it was - nor entirely sure what it was - so he had been standing in the same spot staring at the rows of eyeshadow for nearly twenty minutes.  He was beginning to suspect that the hunt for mascara had been a ruse, and his roommates had only sent him out to get rid of him.  He couldn't hear any ticking, though, so at least he wasn't near the bomb.

A woman suddenly turned the corner, her young - possibly early teenaged - daughter trailing behind her.  Reg didn't particularly like other people, but at that moment he didn't particularly feel like moving either, so he took a step backwards and hoped that he wasn't of enough interest - or else he looked too mean - to be worth talking to.

The woman ignored him completely; she scanned the sea of shadows with a keen, discerning eye.  After a moment, she grabbed a case of three shades of a cool, neutral brown, then a smaller case of green - a green, Reg noticed apprehensively, that was nearly the exact shade of his hair.  The woman, of course, did not select such a color intentionally (whatever Reg might have theorized).  Nor did she even really notice Reg at all, apart from just an obstacle on one side of the aisle.  She wanted her eyeshadow, having read in a beauty magazine once that such a shade would accentuate her eyes - and perhaps pull her husband's attention away from that slutty younger woman at work and back to her.  Reg had dyed his hair for much the same reason.  Except Reg didn't have a husband.  And he did not so much want attention as he just wanted to be noticed - that way everyone would be wary and stay away from him.
