Yay, I'm in JAPAN~!!!

Sep 23, 2010 23:40

I've only been here two days and already I can't be bothered writing about all of it ha ha >____<;;;;
Actually, I was halfway through a saved draft post on music. And I'm still getting used to Floretine's small keyboard...

BUT ANYWAY.
JAPAN.

Flight was all good, but OMFGGGGGGGGGGGGGG was it HOT when I arrived yesterday.
I arrived at Narita airport at 7am ish, got to Shibuya, Tokyo around 9amish.
It was like 35'C and 50% humidity. Horrid.
And then I had to drag my frigging heavy suitcase all the way uphill to my hotel
@_____@;;;
And I couldn't check in anyway.
So I ended up meeting my friend TJ who I studied Japanese with at TAFE - she moved to Tokyo at the beginning of the year. We basically wandered around Shibuya for ten hours, lol. <3 Shibuya. We also took a detour to Shinjuku to find Closet Child so I could pick up my Baby the Stars Shine Bright Merry Sweet Castle JSK~☆
It was an adventure.
Shinjuku station is.... like the Curtin Architecture Building - has a rep for getting people lost. Because it's basically the busiest train station in the world. Actually, we did okay. But trying to find the building was funny because Japanese addressed are crazy. They have three numbers. For example, Closet Child, I think is 7-20-10. The seven is the district, the 20 is the block and the 10 is the building. And not all buildings have the number on them either. And only main roads have names.
But we found it and all is well.

Today I met with a childhood friend I haven't spoken to in about 15 years, since I moved back to Perth from Sydney (our Mums are still friends).
We went to a sumo tournament. All day.
( ゚Д゚)
It was pretty interesting, but not until after lunch. We arrived really early (I met David at Hachiko at 7.30am!!!), around 9.30am. Ah, I want to go into detail, but I;m so tireeeeeeed.
Basically, the hall it was in is really huge. It's a centre dias surrounded by seats, like a big square. We were in the gallery, but it doesn't really matter because (a) we could sit anywhere we wanted for the first half of the day (no one checks...) and (b) it's sumo - you can see what's going on either way. But when we got there it was also really empty. People didn't start filling it till 2pm when the more advance sumo wrestlers fight.
I liked it because the rules are simple: first person to have a foot/body outside the ring, or to fall on the ground, is the loser.
It got exciting in the more intermediate and advanced rounds, probably because there were more people. And they call out the names of the fighters (which we started doing too :P ) and there are more ceremonial things with the higher ups.
But actually, each fight lasts less than a minute. And sometimes the wrestlers get tossed hard enough to fall into the crowd or onto the judges who sit at the foot of the dias, one for each side.

Anywho, I still can't believe I'm here.
It's pretty neat.

Tomorrow I plan to go to Harajuku and shop shop shop (lots of window shopping) - it will be a fun adventure. I want to really explore it =)
I will post about it tomorrow, and all my photos so far.
For now, I am soooo tired (I only dozed for four hours on my flight, by the way) and it's really difficult to type on this laptop.

Oh, also, it's REALLY hard to meet people when you don't have a phone. I was relying on using Freichan (ipod touch) and free wireless, but actually there isn't really any around, which is very surprising. Especially for Shibuya anyway. Can't wait to get a phone but I have to wait til Wakayama, since you need to present your alien registration card, which I don't have yet - otherwise I would just fave and buy one tomorrow.

Double also: THANK GOODNESS the weather today was a total change. I was so surprised and I still can't get over it. Rainy (WHUPS, I have no umbrella yet....) and kind of chilly, maybe 21~24 degrees?? IDK. but I dressed for yesterday's weather....

Triple also, I forgot to mention I had a wander in Shibuya;s 109 building - basically a very small (REALLY) but very tall (REALLY) fashion department store for young Tokyo girls. All the clothes are sooooooo cuuuuuuuuuuuute. And I discovered Liz Lisa OMFG SO CUTE. I could very easily buy one of everything in the entire store.... if I were rich. As it is, I do want to go back and get someting.... ha ha ha.
I also had to wait for TJ for like half an hour out the front of 109 (yeah, sucks not having a phone) and it was totally worth it just for the people-watching. So many cute and fashionable girls =) I love seeing all the different outfits. Even the older ladies were awesome.

Today at sumo I saw the COOLEST BLUE-RINSE EVARRR
I don't know if it was intentional or not, but it was navy blue. As far as blue-rinses go, it was pretty cool.

Anyway, see you tomorrow (or the next day..........)
after my Harajukua and lolita adventures~☆

Lots of love,
Cake
