Oh no! I hate that feeling of 'ohmygodthehairdresserhasmademyhairlookawful'...it's just not a good feeling. It actually makes you want to die. I really adored your hair as it was and didn't really understand why you were getting it permed. It was just so chunky and messylicious.

However, do not depspair...there are several key things to be remembered:

1.) Hair always looks bad when you leave the hairdressers. It takes at least a week to settle in properly, especially with drastic things like perming or colouring, and usually looks nicest about three weeks after. I always feel a bit of a tit when I leave the hairdressers. Too sharp and grrr. Give it a while and it will genuinely look better.

2.) A huge change in your personal appearance always takes a while to get used to. Again, just give it time for the self-vision bit of your brain to adjust. After a week you'll be feeling right at home in your new locks.

3.) The change will do you good. Whether you look better or not, a big change in one's look is always advisable from time to time...it keeps you on your toes and helps you realsie that the bits that really matter don't change. What is more, having the confidence to give it a try is very rewarding.

4.) It's hair. Hair is very easily changed: it's a great thing to play around with. Imagine if you'd had plastic surgery. If you hate it that much it can always be styled, straightened, covered with hats if need be.

5.) It's hair. There is much more to your look than your hair. Your clothes will still be marvellous, even if you hair isn't perfect. Maybe it will be a chance to try out basing your look on other things than the coolest hair known to mankind.

6.) It's hair. You are genuinely beautiful and having a silly hairstyle for a few weeks will not change this.

7.) It's hair. As you say, in the long term people are attracted to personalities not looks. We each care about these things much more than anyone else ever does. One dodgy perm will not leave you a spinster forever. A huge proportion of the female population have a funny "when I got my hair permed" story. They don't all die lonely. You are not alone.

Yeah.

I'm gonna stop now. Basically, you are cool, you are beautiful and...it's hair!

See you (and the perm) tomorrow!

xxx

I think that 'its hair' may be the new catphrase for the next few days every time I look in the mirror. Your 1 to 7 of dodgy hairstyles responses has made me fell a lot better. I might even like it in the end...ok this may be hopeful but who knows!?

I shall see you tomorrow but thanks very mucu for this long comment, it has reasured me. Theres nothing like reasoning your way out of a difficult situation!
