Strange Neighbors

Apr 01, 2006 19:26

Today was a normal enough day, until the neighbors came to visit me as I was standing next to the small pond where I go to gather the iris roots to make yellow dye.

They came quietly clucking to one another~ four of them all together. The bravest lead the way, wading through the shallow waters over the drain edge of the water.

Three of the neighbors had pink heads and normal bars. The ring leader however, sported a bright blue head and a white end bar to it's tail.

When they boldly walked up to me and demanded the bread I had in my hand as I was eating my lunch, I realized that my neighbors have had more human contact than most wild turkeys ought to. ~Enough that they behave as if they are semi domesticated.... Not good in the whole scheme of release and repopulate when push comes to hold me it's dark out there and I think I heard a cricket......

They are nice to walk with and visit but I doubt that I shall be inviting them in for crumpets and tea. No apposible thumbs, no crossing the welcome mat.
